PIYA ROY CHOUDHURY – The Entrepreneurial Journey

Piya Roy Choudhury (@PiyaRoyChoudhury) is a young, energetic entrepreneur from Kolkata, the City of Joy. She is the Director-Renaissance Group of Companies, which is into multidimensional trades like auto LPG, logistics, hospitality, events, web technologies, and interactive digital and advertisement agencies.

After completing her schooling at South Point High School, Piya graduated in Sociology from Presidency College, followed by a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Calcutta, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Birla Institute of Liberal Arts and Management Sciences, Kolkata. While pursuing her Master’s degree, she joined her father's business, as a business partner of Renaissance Shipping Lines in 2002. With her ambitions to reach the epitome of business, she has been focused and committed and her hard work paved the way to grow the group into multidimensional sectors, over the years.

In 2016, under her leadership, the company came up with auto LPG Dispensing pumps in Kolkata. Today, Renaissance Group owns a fleet of LPG and propane tankers. Although the handling of LPG Dispensing pumps and LPG and propane tankers have been traditionally male-dominated businesses, Piya has been able to thrive through sheer courage and grit.

Piya also owns a multi-cuisine restaurant, Calcutta Calling. Her restaurant business took a big hit during the pandemic. Unable to open her restaurant during the lockdown, she went online to cater to her customers. She took these challenges as an opportunity and has developed a new channel to grow her restaurant business. Piya always considered her staff members as her extended family and has not retrenched any of her staff during the pandemic time despite having suffered economic setbacks.

Piya Roy Choudhury is also actively engaged in adding value to society through her Foundation – Renaissance Trust. The Trust focuses on providing basic education and health for the underprivileged and works with Hope Foundation and Inner Wheel Club Kolkata. Her business commitments have not deterred her from her family commitments and responsibilities towards her parents and son. She loves travelling, shopping, chatting with friends, cooking, listening to music, and also enjoys early morning walks. She has an extremely warm and pleasant personality, is active on social media, and has been tagged as the “Selfie Queen “by her friends.
