Meet Leelagomathi, the mom of one and half years old who started a bookstore.

Who doesn’t love books? What’s more than the joy of spreading the love for books from a mother to a child? That’s precisely how my little bookstore, Booktoonz (booktoonz), came into existence when my son was just one and a half years old. There has been no looking back since then. It has been 6 successful years now.

Being a voracious reader myself, I wanted to inculcate the reading habit in my child too. But the poor maintenance of pre-loved books that I bought and the pricey alternates available at e-commerce sites made me think twice and inspired me to start a venture of my own. Without compromising on the quality of books and their maintenance, I promised myself to provide the best for my mommy customers. Being a mother myself, I was also more concerned to offer a platter of pre-loved books, thoroughly sanitized and safe to handle for the kids.

Booktoonz conducts contests and reading challenges to motivate young readers to develop fulfilling habits away from addictive screens. Through her bookstore, she primarily aims to instil a love for reading in children and not just stop selling kids’ books. Personal contentment over profit has always been her mantra.

Ultimately, these ideas became the core values of my business that I chose to follow judiciously. My customer base expanded purely based on the trust I gained over a period of time. It gave me the confidence to push my boundaries. I started collaborating with local publishers to provide Indian mythology books and ones from indigenous authors as well. Large support came my way when satisfied mommy customers offered a promotion for my store through their YouTube channels. My customer base improved and recognition poured in. Women Entrepreneurs India (WEI) identifying me and offering an exclusive webpage for my venture is one of those significant milestones.

Through my bookstore, I primarily aim to instil a love for reading in children and not just stop selling kids’ books. Personal contentment over profit has always been my mantra. Therefore, Booktoonz conducts contests and reading challenges to motivate young readers to develop fulfilling habits away from addictive screens. As I work towards my passion every day, I hope to touch as many kids’ lives as possible with my books and become one of the most sought-after bookstore listings on popular e-commerce sites.
