REGREEN EXCEL EPC - Meeting the Sustainable Fuel Demand

India's reliance on oil imports depletes its foreign reserves significantly. The cost of oil can be reduced through alternative fuels like ethanol and second-generation ethanol. Regreen Excel (www.regreenexcel.com), situated in Pune, has solutions developed in-house, eMax technology to fulfil the fuel demand at a sustainable cost. Ethanol, a liquid with many applications, is reconditioned spirit used as the intoxicating component in alcoholic beverages and has a purity level of 95%. Ethanol combined with petrol has a purity of at least 99%.

Sanjay Desai, Chairman and MD of Regreen Excel EPC, was convinced there would be a boom in the demand for sustainable fuel when the government started experimenting with the idea of combining ethanol, a by-product of molasses, with petrol. Sanjay Desai established Engineering and Consultants (EEC) in 2009 with his business partners, Tushar Vedu Patil and Alimuddin Aminuddin Sayyed. Although the anticipated boom did not materialize, he continued to install distillery plants, evaporation (ZLD) plants, and ethanol plants. This led to the birth of Regreen-Excel EPC India Private Limited in 2020.

The government's approval of blended fuel has given many sugar cane distilleries leverage to divert and increase their ethanol production capacity. Sanjay Desai's eMax technology not only reduces energy consumption for ethanol production but also allows feedstock substitution.
