Red Rose School (www.redroseschools.com), Bhopal, established in 1977, is a coeducational institution associated with the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE). The Head and Chairman of the Red Rose Group of Schools and Colleges, Sumeet Ponda, opines that parents should re-think their attitude towards education. An exam-centric education kills creativity. According to him, education is not about earning a living but about living and experiencing a fruitful life.

Sumeet Ponda, the son of a cinema manager, Shri Kapil Ponda and a schoolteacher, Smt. Manjula was an introvert. While rote learning and studies did not grab his interest, his high score in English in the Higher Secondary Examination placed him in the top bracket in Madhya Pradesh.

Bollywood Calling

His MBA dissertation on Hindi Feature Films as a Consumer Product won him accolades from reputed Indian filmmakers and led to attractive offers from Bollywood. His Bollywood phase involved working with esteemed filmmakers like Shekar Kapur and Vidhu Vinod Chopra in various capacities- from business manager to scripting to editing.

However, his career changed course when his father’s poor health led him back to Bhopal, and he decided to work with his mom to nurture her legacy - the Red Rose School. The school, which was already a reputed institution, grew leaps and bounds to become a well-known educational institution in Bhopal. Thirty-five years later, the Red Rose School is synonymous with quality education.

Nurturing the Red Rose

Under Sumeet Ponda's leadership, the Red Rose School has three branches, including the flagship Red Rose School in Lambakheda, which is Bhopal's first school to collaborate with the University of Cambridge.

Ponda strongly believes that entrepreneurship is vital to a nation's economic development. Entrepreneurs are catalysts of growth as they create wealth and generate employment. This mantra was the basis for setting up M K Ponda College of Business and Management, a non-placement unconventional B School, in 2007. Their aim – to create a new generation of entrepreneurs that will participate in the knowledge-based economy of the future.

Sumeet Ponda has received numerous honours for his work in the field of education, including the Vidya Ratan Gold Medal, Best Educationist Award, Gujarat Shiksha Ratn Puruskar, Rajiv Gandhi Educational Excellence Award, and the Rashtriya Vidhya Samman Puruskar.
