Farming is a practice that creates environmental consciousness and an attachment with Mother Earth. But a young mind in Karnataka is working further to help make agriculture and farming more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Making every drop count...
HG Polymers (www.hgpolymers.wordpress.com) has been an established business since 2006, before which the owners ran a small manufacturing unit focusing on mainly plastic cans and other products to collect water. But the approach became more modern when Mr. Alam Killedar, the current proprietor of the business, worked with the aim of promoting sustainable agriculture. Considering the demand and supply of water for irrigation needs and how the water available can be wisely used for agricultural purposes, Killedar conceived HG Drip Irrigation- an end-to-end solution for drip irrigation systems.

This idea was executed well with the help of his knowledge in electrical engineering, and the finances were covered with the help of loans. Small irrigation loan schemes helped him set up the business and to take it ahead he approached KSFC for a 50L loan. The loan has subsequently been cleared and the company has high hopes for business expansion by manufacturing the fittings required for providing end-to-end solutions. Killedar markets his products under HG Polymers, and the brand name of the pipes is Prolex Pipes.
Challenges
The company is a proud manufacturer of PVC and other kinds of pipes used for water supply, and laterals and fittings used in irrigation. But the business has its own challenges. The primary one is customers’ inclination towards branded pipes. As Killedar mentions, most customers still rely on popular brand names in the market, making it challenging for him to make people trust his products for sustainability and quality.
However, with the projects being a testament to high quality, people are now approaching him.
