With an alarming change in the climate due to global warming, there is an immediate need to change lifestyle habits and switch to environment-friendly practices. A Bathinda-based proprietorship firm has taken a tiny step towards this revolution. Green Energy and Organics (@Green Energy & Organics) is doing its part in helping people understand the importance of saving the environment by introducing new techniques in farming.

Farming is a profession that a majority of northern India thrives on, especially in the region of Punjab. But many farming practices take a toll on the farmers’ pockets, with electricity costs topping the list. For ages, electricity has been the sole medium of supplying water to the farms during the crop season. This led to the consumption of non-renewable sources of energy like coal to burn and cause air pollution.

Unlike electric motors, the ones that are fitted with solar panels offers greater flexibility to farmers in terms of enabling them to water the fields at their convenience, besides making complete savings on fuel costs.

Mr Khushwinder Singh, the proprietor of Green Energy and Organics, has taken the initiative of spreading the importance of solar energy in farming. Singh runs the firm that successfully deals with planning, designing, and installation of solar panels to run the water supply motors at fields in Punjab and regions around Punjab, where farming is one of the prominent professions. He explains that the benefits of solar panels over electric motors are immense. Since solar installations are not dependent on electricity, the farmers do not need to wait for specific time slots to water their fields - they can do so at their convenience. Further, they help save on fuel, like diesel, used to run the generator. The panels, once installed, do not need any maintenance, and come with a 25-years warranty. So, the farmers need not worry about any unnecessary repair costs.

The firm has completed 2500 kW on-grid solar power projects in Punjab and hopes to further continue this ‘green’ revolution.
